Family in the Backyard

Portraits happened right there in the yard — no move required, everyone already where they needed to be. The whole family gathered on the candle-lined stone wall: Tyra and Robert standing with a grandfather in his blue hat seated on the settee between the little ring bearer and a flower girl, her white tulle spilling across the cushion. Another catches three of the kids mid-laugh on the settee, one waving a blue freeze-pop.

Then Tyra and Robert on their own — a portrait against the green of the garden, her veil bright against his grey suit, and a relaxed one seated on the low wall, his bow tie undone a notch. A backyard keeps everyone close together, which is most of the point, and the whole group stood together in one.

Dinner at Home, Then the Limo

As the light went long, the celebration eased into the backyard. There was a tiered cake — red velvet under the white icing, going by the slice on the plate — and a sweet moment of Tyra feeding a bite to one of the little boys at the table, another of them in a "Dad's Little" tee reaching up for the spoon. The wildflowers that framed the ceremony carried over to the tables, and the day slowed into the part they'd been looking forward to: time with the people who came.

When it was over, the limo was waiting at the curb. Tyra and Robert climbed in and rode off from their own front door — the last detail of a day they never had to run themselves.
