Jessica and Sean's micro wedding at Wind and Sea Estates in Big Sur was twelve people on a cliff above the Pacific in October 2022. The morning was slow and close, the gown hanging in a window over the deck, Sean's mother pinning on his boutonniere, and when Jessica came out in her dress, the family who'd driven out to the coast met her with a room full of raised hands. They found a quiet corner of the garden for a first look, then everyone gathered on the clifftop deck, where Sean's father stood in as officiant and married them with the fog and the open water behind him.
Jessica's gown, a clean, backless slip with a row of covered buttons, hung in a window over the deck, the Big Sur pines just outside the glass. Downstairs, Sean's mother pinned a small white boutonniere to his navy suit while he laughed. Jessica got into the dress with her people close by, and when she came out to meet the family who'd made the drive, the whole room threw their hands up.
Before the day gathered, the two of them slipped down to a quiet stretch of the garden, coastal scrub, a curving rail, the ocean somewhere below the fog. Jessica came around with her white-and-green bouquet, Sean turned, and they had a few minutes that were only theirs.
The ceremony was out on the deck at the edge of the property, a wood platform with cable railings and nothing beyond it but the grey, open Pacific. A handful of benches on the lawn held the twelve guests, two of them young nephews. Jessica walked in with her father to "Marry Me, Archie" by Alvvays; Sean's father, Dave, stood as their officiant, reading from a black folder with the water at his back.

They laughed most of the way through it. Jessica held her rings behind her back, the covered buttons running down the line of her gown, and when Dave pronounced them married the small crowd on the lawn was right there for it. They recessed to Natalie Cole's "This Will Be."
“Twelve people on a cliff above the Pacific, and his father reading the vows with the open water behind him.”
Then came the walk around the property, the garden paths, the succulent beds, the coastal hillside dropping toward the water. Jessica and Sean took their portraits along it, and pulled the whole group in for one loud, arms-up family photo with the Big Sur ridgeline behind them. Eucalyptus and cypress framed the coastline, the sun breaking through a low grey ceiling out over the water, the reason people come to Big Sur to marry.
Dinner was one long table on a deck built out over the ocean, white linen, dark folding chairs, a low run of greenery and white blooms down the center, a "Just Married" banner strung along the railing, and patio heaters against the coast air. A private chef worked out of the estate kitchen and sent out a plated, several-course dinner as the water went grey, then dark, past the railing.
As the light went, the string lights took over. The two nephews announced the couple in; toasts went around the table, Sean's father laughing through his. They cut a single-tier cake from Sweet Reba's, iced white and topped with garden roses, the kids pressed up to the front for it. Then, indoors, a first dance, close and unhurried, to the Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes for You", and a father-daughter dance to the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows."
“It's rare to find wedding planners with this level of professionalism and experience (at a reasonable price) in the Bay Area. It's even more rare to find planners who will go beyond what's expected to make your day feel personal and memorable. Jaime, Dennis, and Casey brought exceptional expertise and imaginative touches to our day that we'll never forget. Whether it was Jaime's graceful handling of our pint-sized guests and pitch-perfect day-of coordination, Dennis's luminous photography (and charm!), or Casey's unending responsiveness, we felt we were in the best hands at nearly every step of this (possibly harrowing) process.”
